Each feeding mode demands a different presentation style. In clear water, long leaders and delicate casts reduce disturbance. In moderate flows, controlled drifts through seams and pockets keep your fly in the strike zone longer. In high or stained water, active retrieves and strategic casting angles help your fly stand out.

Adapting presentation to feeding behavior often matters more than changing flies. A well-presented pattern in the right zone will consistently outperform a perfect pattern fished poorly.

One of the most common mistakes is ignoring subtle changes in water conditions. A slight increase in flow or a shift in clarity can completely change how trout feed.
